Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift is donating 1 million dollars to the Louisiana relief fund in order to help the thousands of people who have lost their homes due to the recent massive flooding.
According to NBC Nightly News, more than 12,000 people still remain in shelters due to this horrid weather, which led President Barack Obama to declare an immediate federal emergency.
While many emergency efforts have been circulating 24 hours a day, many overcrowded shelters have unfortunately turned away displaced people. In addition, one of the interstate highways has remained closed due to dangerous road conditions and high floodwaters.
Swift, in a statement to the Associated Press, explained:
We began The 1989 World Tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home. The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking.
More than 40,000 people have been rescued so far.
