Britney Spears is baring it all ahead of the release of her upcoming memoir, The Woman in Me (out Oct. 24), from her relationship with Justin Timberlake (and a bombshell abortion revelation) to her “soul-crushing” conservatorship. The next topic of conversation on Spears’ docket? Her early aughts party era.
According to a new excerpt from the book shared with People, Spears says her party phase — which often linked her to fellow Y2K icons, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton — wasn’t nearly “as wild” as it seemed.
"It was never as wild as the press made it out to be,” she wrote in the book, adding that she had no interest in hard drugs and “never had a drinking problem.”
Spears then clarified that she did, however, take her Adderall (her "drug of choice") frequently during this phase, explaining, “[It] made me high, yes, but what I found far more appealing was that it gave me a few hours of feeling less depressed.”
While Spears, Hilton, and Lohan no longer spend time together publicly, the singer’s admission comes just weeks after Hilton told People that she’s “so proud” of Britney “for telling her story.”
“I know how hard it can be doing a memoir because you have to really dive in and think about so many moments in your life that I’m sure you don’t even want to think about,” she told the publication. “But it is truly such a healing experience, and writing my book [Paris: The Memoir] has changed my life in so many ways.”
Paris added, “So I’m really hoping that she feels the same way with this. I am just proud of what a strong woman she is.”
The Woman in Me will hit bookshelves on Oct. 24.
