Jules Hudson has been a familiar face on popular TV show Escape to the Country since 2007, where he helps hopeful property buyers discover their dream home.

The 51-year-old is also known to frequently present sections of Countryfile on BBC One.

Jules was born in Colchester, Essex, in 1970. He was brought up in a Bed and Breakfast hotel run by his mother.

Jules has attributed his conversational presenting style from his experience growing up in the Bed and Breakfast, where he met many people from different backgrounds and nationalities.

After attending boarding school, Jules went onto study Archaeology at university, before briefly pursuing a career as an army officer.

The army wasn’t the right place for Jules, and in 1996 he started to pursue a career in television production focusing on historical programs.

Soon Jules found himself in front of the camera thanks to his natural charisma and confidence.

Today, Jules lives in Herefordshire with wife Tania and son Jack and two Labradors, Teddy and Lolo. The couple tied the knot in 2016.

In 2018, Jules revealed to the Express how he likes to spend his spare time: "My perfect day is a nice, warm, sunny Sunday with myself, my wife, my son and our dogs all out gardening having a really lazy day.

"I love it when there is no one to ring, no one to bother with and we are just immersed in the practicalities of being outdoors, getting mucky and transforming the garden."

Although Jules is known to have an affinity for the countryside, he and his wife have their own experience of city living.

Before moving to the countryside, Jules and Tania lived closer to London for Tania's work, but the presenter revealed that he didn't enjoy his time there.

Speaking to The Times in 2020, Jules said: "I found London very claustrophobic. There's an energy about it that I absolutely love, but I need green fields and space."

The couple decided to find somewhere they’d feel more at home, and eventually found their property in Herefordshire. "We knew what we were looking for — something with space, something with outbuildings. And having its own plot was really important to me."

Escape to the Country is on BBC Two today at 2:45pm.
